Cleaner MM31: Cleaning, degreasing,
corrosion protection and paint adhesion
in 1 simple step

AD Chemicals metal surface treatment logo
  • Improved adhesion and corrosion protection after grit blasting
  • Combining the worlds of chemical pretreatment and mechanical pretreatment
  • Meets or exceeds quality standards such as Qualicoat, Qualisteelcoat and GSB

Cleaner MM31 is suitable for the treatment of substrate steel, aluminum and galvanized steel. Cleaner MM31 is a chemical treatment applied directly after grit/sand blasting or metallization (also referred to as metal spraying).

AD Chemicals launches a revolutionary product (Cleaner MM31) on the global market for metal products that are mechanically pre-treated prior to the coating process (wet- or powder paint). Cleaner MM31 is suitable for the treatment of aluminium, steel, hot dip galvanized and metalized steel.

It is the result of a R&D trajectory of more than 8 years. Cleaner MM31 is a chemical treatment applied directly after a mechanical pre-treatment which is a complete new way of thinking. The effect? Cleaner MM31 significantly improves the (end) quality of products to be coated. It has two main benefits; by applying the product, a conversion layer is created that substantially improves the quality of adhesion of the paint system and enhances
the corrosion-resistance properties of the paint system as a whole. With Cleaner MM31 one can easily obtain a quality level that complies with international standards such as Qualicoat, Qualisteelcoat and GSB. The product is also approved by major paint manufacturers.
The application procedure of Cleaner MM31 is very simple and can be easily integrated in most business process.

The innovative character lies in the fact that it combines the strengths of a mechanical and chemical pre-treatment. Furthermore, the product is free of hazard labels and chromium (VI)- free. The correct use of Cleaner MM31 will thus not have a negative effect on people and their environment.

Advantages Steel

By applying Cleaner MM31 directly after blasting the following benefits are acquired for the end product:

  • Creation of a conversion layer
  • Protection against “flash”rust
  • Paint adhesion layer for organic coatings (powder coating and wet painting),
  • Protection against and reduced undercreep corrosion

Advantages Aluminium

By applying Cleaner MM31 directly after blasting the following benefits are acquired for the end product::

  • Creation of a conversion layer
  • Paint adhesion layer for organic coatings (powder coating and wet painting)
  • Protection against corrosion and reduced underceep corrosion

Advantages Galavanized Steel

By applying Cleaner MM31 directly after blasting the following benefits are acquired for the end product:

  • Creation of a conversion layer
  • Paint adhesion layer for organic coatings (powder coating and wet painting),
  • Protection against corrosion and reduced underceep corrosion
  • Passivation properties, materials are passivated and have bare corrosion resistance up to several days

Easy application method

The Cleaner MM31 procedure can be integrated easily in every grit/sand blasting companies its business processes. It is applied directly after grit/sand blasting or metal spraying. The application procedure.

Test results

To objectively determine the corrosion resistance and paint adhesion properties extensive testing according to international standards is required. In metal surface treatment there are two types of tests common practice. The tests executed to verify the effects of Cleaner MM31 are :

Paint Adhesion

  • Cross hatch, conform EN ISO 2409 / ASTM D3359
  • Boiling test / wet adhesion
  • Impact test, in accordance with EN ISO 6272-1 / ASTM D2794 / EN 13523-5
  • Dolly pul off adhesion test, in accordance with ASTM D 4541

Corrosion protection

  •  Machu corrosion test
    • The Machu test, also known as accelerated corrosion test on test panels and construction parts according to Qualicoat specifications. The test is made in a warm environment. To create this environment the test panels are placed in the plastic container, which is placed in the Machu Test Bath. The test panels need to be scratched crosswise with a 1mm cutting tool before placing them in the warm moisture test chamber. The fluid content, temperature and remain time are specified
  • Salt spray testing
    •  Salt spray testing is an accelerated corrosion test that produces a corrosive attack to coated samples in order to evaluate (mostly comparatively) the suitability of the coating for use as a protective finish. The appearance of corrosion products (rust) is evaluated after a pre-determined period of time. Test duration depends on the corrosion resistance of the coating; generally, the more corrosion resistant the coating is, the longer the period of testing before the appearance of corrosion/ rust. The salt spray test is one of the most widespread and long established corrosion tests. The salt spray tests are executed in accordance with ISO9227/ Din50021/ ASTM B117.
